The Process

How to Become a DBE

...before you become overwhelmed, just follow the steps below...

 

1. First, download the following documents:

2. Read through the instructions and gather all necessary supporting documents (see checklist).

 

3. Complete the DBE Application.

 

4. Complete the Personal Financial Statement.

 

5. Submit the application and all required documentation to the address below:

Civil Rights Office
#16 State House Station
Augusta, Maine 04333-0016

 

6. Upon review of the application and required documentation, the Maine Department of Transportation will arrange an "on-site evaluation" of the company.

 

7. If the application is approved, the company will be certified by the Maine Department of Transportation and classified according to its products and services.

 

Once certified, all DBEs must submit a "No Change Affidavit," a "Personal Net Worth Statement" and a copy of the business's federal tax return annually to reconfirm their company's eligibility status. (Note: submit these documents in advance of your recertification date to avoid being removed from the DBE list during the recertification process.)
